East West Rail Consortium Proposals – Bedford – Sandy - Cambridge

East West Rail Consortium has published the 5 potential routes for this strategic rail initiative. Their aim is to establish a strategic railway connecting East Anglia with Central, Southern and Western England. After evaluation, a corridor running Bedford – Sandy – Cambridge is their preferred choice for the Central section. Though no route is yet decided the area is being surveyed for possible alternatives and Route A is their current preferred route. For more information see the website:

The Consortium is currently undertaking further analysis into the 5 alternative routes and the consultation to determine options ended on March 11th 2019.

If there is a possibility that part of the route will go near to or impact upon your land and business contact us to discuss your options - we have extensive experience of compulsory purchase of land, which includes rail, road and pipeline issues. You may, at some point, benefit from advice in order to negotiate the best possible return should the final route affect your propertry and we would be pleased to help you on this.

In additon to the loss of land and the obvious impact on rural businesses the location of the railway will be key to widespread development opportunities associated with the Cambridge to Oxford Arc. At Landscope we advise on a range of planning and development opportunities and promote land on behalf of clients.
